AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving rules and user fees
for Waukee Dog Park [590 SE Brick Drive]

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: City staff has researched surrounding
community’s dog park rules, regulations and fees and has put together
the attached documents for Council approval. Holmes Murphy and ICAP
has reviewed the rules and provided feedback to staff to ensure the City
has set forth clear and consistent rules and regulations. The Parks and
Recreation Department is confident through our research and discussions
that the rules and fees are consistent with other dog parks in the metro.
All dog park memberships will be handled through the Parks and
Recreation Department’s online SportsMan software. The City looks
forward to providing a top notch facility to the Citizen’s and canines of
Waukee.

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The Parks and Recreation Department recommends
approval of the rules and fees for Waukee Dog Park.

RESOLUTION 18-
APPROVING RULES AND USER FEES FOR WAUKEE DOG PARK
[590 SE BRICK DRIVE]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department proposes rules for use and associated fees for
the use of the Waukee Dog Park located at 590 SE Brick Drive; AND,
WHEREAS, the rules and fees are attached hereto and by reference incorporated herein;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
3rd day of December, 2018, that the Waukee Dog Park rules for use and associated fees are
hereby approved.

Waukee Dog Park Rules
1.Use of the Dog Park is at the owner/handler’s own risk. Pass holders and their guests agree to hold the
City of Waukee harmless for any injury or damages to person or property while using the Dog Park.
2.All dogs who enter must have a valid annual pass attached to their collars, made visible at all times.
3.Hours of the Dog Park are 7 a.m. to sunset (7 p.m. during the winter).
4.Passes will not be issued to puppies younger than 16 weeks old.
5.Dogs with known histories of aggression, fighting or biting are not allowed in the Dog Park. Any dog
exhibiting aggressive or unruly behavior is required to be removed by the handler immediately. Dog
owners will be held liable for their dog’s actions. If your dog gets into an altercation please exchange
contact information with the other dog owner(s). Any dog exhibiting aggressive tendencies is subject to
pass revocation.
6.Dog handlers must be a minimum of 16 years old. Children ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult
at all times. Children under the age of 10 are not allowed inside the Dog Park.
7.There is a maximum of two dogs allowed per handler.
8.No wheeled or motorized vehicles are allowed in the Dog Park unless used for a disability.
9.Dogs must enter and exit the Dog Park on a leash. Once inside the fenced Dog Park, handlers may
unleash their dog. Dog handlers are responsible for carrying a leash for each dog within the park while
staying within eyesight and voice control of their dog(s) at all times. Dogs cannot be left unattended at
any time.
10.All owners/handlers must clean up after their dog(s) in all areas of the Dog Park. Please use the provided
waste bags and receptacles within the Dog Park. Dogs are not allowed to dig inside the Dog Park. Dog
owners are responsible for filling in any holes created by their dog(s).
11.Female dogs in heat are not allowed in the Dog Park. Non-neutered male dogs should be closely
monitored at all times.
12.No animal or human food is allowed within the Dog Park, other than small training treats.
13.Electric, metal, prong, pinch, or spike collars are not allowed in the Dog Park.
14.Sick, lame, or injured dogs are not allowed in the Dog Park. Dogs must be current on all vaccinations.
15.In the Small Dog Area, dogs must be less than 13” at the shoulder and weigh no more than 25 pounds.
16.All dogs are allowed in the Large Dog area, but please keep in mind that it is possible for small dogs to be
accidentally injured by larger dogs.
17.Pass holders and tags cannot be transferred to other dogs or dog owners.
Waukee Dog Park Fees
Annual pass (resident) = $25.00 per dog
Annual pass (non-resident) = $45.00 per dog
Daily pass = $5.00
Lost tag replacement = $5.00
