HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-12-17-J01H Fire Dept SCBA 2018_Receipt-File PurchaseAGENDA ITEM: J1H CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: December 17, 2018 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of receipt and file of the purchase of 20 MSA (Mine Safety Appliance) Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) from Sandry Fire Supply. FORMAT:Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: For the purchase of 20 MSA Self Contained Breathing Apparatus’s. SCBA’s are the “air packs fire fighters wear on their backs during fires. The current SCBA’s were purchased on a FEMA grant in 2003 and are at the end of life cycle. We have unsuccessfully applied for a grant for three years for replacement. The new SCBA’s will have a 15-year life cycle. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: The purchase price of the SCBAs and required options is $159,543.60. There is $160,000 in the current FY CIP for this project. The Waukee Fire Association will be purchasing an estimated $2,500 in accessories such as illuminated identifiers that were not included the budget. COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends the purchase of MSA. Command and line staff conducted significant testing and review of various brands of SCBA’s. MSA scored the highest among the staff and was the low quote that met all specifications. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I.
