The job descriptions for: Water/Wastewater Superintendent, Water Operator, Wastewater Operator, Water/Wastewater Laborer, Water/Wastewater Laborer – Seasonal, Water/Wastewater Intern, (Public Works – Water/Wastewater Division) are submitted as an accurate description of the current essential functions of the positions. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The Public Works Director, and Human Resource Director recommend the approval of the job descriptions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Assists in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant and the wastewater collection system, including lift stations. 2. Installs, repairs, replaces, rereads and special reads water meters as needed. 3. Performs hydrant flushing and flow testing. 4. Assists in valve turning and GIS valve locating. 5. Operates remote camera in wastewater and storm water distribution systems. 6. Assists in all Divisions of Public Works as directed throughout the season. 7. Must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License and meet the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Able to regularly lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. 2. Able to move objects weighing over 100 pounds using assistive devices multiple times during the day. 3. Able to enter manholes. 4. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature will be encountered. 2. During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for entire scheduled work day. 3. During different job duties the noise inside or outside can become very loud. 4. May be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed. 5. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards. 6. Standard work hours will be Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with additional evening or weekend hours as required. 7. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours within Waukee Public Works Building. 8. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Assists in collecting, testing and analyzing water and wastewater samples. 2. Completes service calls. 3. Installs, repairs, replaces and reads water meters and water irrigation meters. 4. Performs hydrant, valve, and tower maintenance program and water service calls to maintain water distribution and City storage system. 5. Assists in maintaining wastewater collection system including lift stations and in cleaning and maintaining distribution systems. 6. Assists in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant. 7. Utilizes computerized systems for distributions systems, plant operation, lift stations and remote camera. 8. Responds, in a timely manner, to emergency calls for any Public Works Division and at any time. 9. Plows snow during regular business hours and after hours during snow emergencies. 10. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Learns and explores all aspects of the Water/Waste Water Division including: the operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant and the wastewater collection system; collection, testing, and analyzing water and wastewater samples and preparing and submitting reports to regulatory agencies: and installing, repairing, replacing, and reading water meters. 2. Assists Full Time staff in performing hydrant flushing and flow testing, valve turning and Geographic Information System (GIS) valve locating. 3. Leads and directs the Water/Wastewater Division staff through selection, orientation, training, performance management and discipline according to standard operating procedures, City policy and departmental rules and regulations. 2. Ensures the Public Works Department policies, procedures, regulations, programs, systems, operations, goals and objectives are met. 3. Oversees the financial aspects of the Water/Wastewater Division operations, including accounting for department revenues, approving expenditures, keeping accurate inventory and preparing the annual CIP and budget request. 4.
