Proclamation PREPARED BY: Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA PROCLAMATION ROTARY FOUNDATION DAY IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, Rotary, founded on February 23, 1905, in Chicago, Illinois, is an organization of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together in 35,000 clubs in more than 200 countries to create positive, lasting change in local communities and around the world; AND, WHEREAS, Rotary is open to people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender or political preference; AND, WHEREAS, the Rotary Foundation, founded in 1917, was established as an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world”; AND, WHEREAS, through its many initiatives, Rotary promotes peace and conflict resolution, fights disease, provides clean water and sanitation, saves mothers and children, supports education, and grows local economies; AND, WHEREAS, Rotary and the global health community have made amazing strides in fighting polio, funding the cost of immunizing 2.5 billion children in 122 countries, bringing the world closer to eradicating polio; AND, WHEREAS, in the Des Moines metro area, more than 1,100 Rotarians in 11 clubs are celebrating 100 years of the Rotary Foundation and their contribution to our community and world. NOW THEREFORE I, William F. Peard, Mayor of the City of Waukee, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, April 11, 2017, as Rotary Foundation Day in Waukee, Iowa, and encourage residents to join me in recognizing the Rotary Foundation for its 100 years of service and dedication to improving the human condition in local communities and around the world. IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City of Waukee to be affixed this April 3, 2017. _________________________________________ William F.
