FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $371,534.00 COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: City staff recommends awarding contract to Sternquist Construction, Inc., of Indianola, IA, in the amount of $371,534.00. That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements described in general as the U.S. 6/Hickman Road and Westgate Drive Intersection Improvements, described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on May 1, 2017, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows: Contractor: Sternquist Construction, Inc. of Indianola, IA Amount of bid: $371,534.00 Portion of project: All construction work Section 2. That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the City until approved by this Council. City of Waukee 805 University Avenue Waukee, IA 50263 RE: RECOMMENDATION OF AWARD U.S. 6/HICKMAN ROAD & WESTGATE DRIVE INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS WAUKEE, IOWA PROJECT #116.0901 Dear John: At 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, bids were received for the U.S. 6/Hickman Road Intersection Improvements Project. The proposed project includes the installation of traffic signals and turn lane improvements at the intersection of Hickman Road and Westgate Drive. Four bids were received and opened. The bids ranged from $371,534.00 to $460,481.00. Our opinion of probable construction costs was $395,600. The low bid of 371,534.00 was submitted by Sternquist Construction, Inc. of Indianola, Iowa. Please refer to the attached bid tabulation. We were pleased with the interest from contractors and the number of bidders for a project of this size. Our recommendation is to award the project to the low bidder, Sternquist Construction, Inc. of Indianola, Iowa. As a firm we have a great deal of favorable experience working with Sternquist Construction. We believe they are fully capable of successfully carrying out the requirements of the contract.
