SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project bid letting was held at Waukee City Hall
on August 29, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Seven (7) apparent bids were received,
with the low bid submitted by Concrete Professionals of Altoona, IA, in
the amount of $142,405.20.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $142,405.20

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE WINDFIELD/HIGH SCHOOL TRAIL -
PHASE I
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,
STATE OF IOWA:
Section 1. That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Windfield/High School Trail - Phase I, described in the plans and
specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on September 5, 2017, be and is hereby
accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as
follows:

Section 2. That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the

RE: RECEIPT OF BIDS AND RECOMMENDATION OF AWARD
WINDFIELD / HIGH SCHOOL TRAIL – PHASE I
Dear Rudy:
Bids were received for the Windfield / High School Trail – Phase I project at 2:00 pm on
Tuesday, August 29, 2017. The proposed project includes grading, embankment, pedestrian
bridge installation and trail paving from SE Bobwhite Lane to the northwest parking lot at
Prairieview School to formalize a public connection from the neighborhood to the school.
Seven bids were received and opened. The bids ranged from $142,405.20 to $169,969.69. Our
opinion of probable construction cost was $157,000.00. The low bid was submitted by Concrete
Professionals of Altoona, Iowa. Please refer to attached bid tabulation. We were pleased with the
interest from contractors and the number of bidders, considering we are relatively late in the
construction season.
We recommend award of the contract to the low bidder, Concrete Professionals of Altoona,
Iowa. As a firm we have had limited experience working with this contractor, however, we have
checked with references at the City of Altoona and West Des Moines and believe they are fully
capable of successfully carrying out the requirements of the contract.
