AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution amending a policy for public use of
the Waukee City Hall Council Chambers and conference rooms

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: In order to avoid conflicts with day-to-day operations at
Waukee City Hall, City staff proposes an amended policy for use by the
public of the Council Chambers and City Hall conference rooms.

RESOLUTION 17-
AMENDING A POLICY FOR PUBLIC USE OF THE WAUKEE CITY HALL
COUNCIL CHAMBERS AND CONFERENCE ROOMS
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, on January 18, 2010, the Waukee City Council established a policy related to
public use of the Waukee City Hall Council Chambers and conference rooms (Resolution #10-
22);
WHEREAS, City staff recommend certain specific amendments to the policy;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
16th day of October, 2017, that it hereby approves an amended policy which dictates that the
Waukee City Hall Council Chambers and conference rooms shall be used solely for City of
Waukee governmental functions and organizations either sponsored by the City or related to City
functions, including but not limited to the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce and the Waukee
Betterment Foundation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, in order to avoid conflict with the day-to-day operations
of Waukee City Hall, no meetings to which the general public is invited, other than meetings
serving a City of Waukee governmental function, shall be allowed during regular business hours.
BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that any approved organization that desires to have use of City-
owned broadcast or audio-visual equipment shall first obtain permission from the City
Administrator and may be required to contract with City-approved personnel to operate said
equipment and shall pay said personnel for their services at a rate commensurate with their salary
as a City employee.
