HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-10-16-J01J All-Inclusive Play Area Fundraising_Resolution of Support AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: October 16, 2017 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution of support for the Sports Complex All-Inclusive Play Area FORMAT: Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Throughout the master planning process for the Joint High School/City Park Project, City staff has made it a priority to include an all- inclusive play area focusing on the needs of persons of all abilities. The Waukee Betterment Foundation desires to partner with the City of Waukee through fundraising for monies to be used in the development, construction and outfitting of an all-inclusive play area. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends approval. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY: Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 17- SUPPORTING FUNDRAISING EFFORTS BY THE WAUKEE BETTERMENT FOUNDATION FOR AN ALL-INCLUSIVE PLAY AREA IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County; AND, WHEREAS, on September 6, 2016, the Waukee City Council approved a professional consulting services agreement with Confluence related to master planning services for a joint Waukee High School-City Sports and Recreation Complex (Resolution #16-400); AND, WHEREAS, recent demographics indicate that over 650 children in the Waukee Community School District are eligible for special needs services, not including adults or Waukee children attending other school in other districts; AND, WHEREAS, throughout the master planning process, the City of Waukee has made it a priority to include an all-inclusive play area focusing on the needs of persons of all abilities; AND, WHEREAS, the Waukee Betterment Foundation is an organization focused on preserving and growing a healthy Waukee community through projects that make an impact on the Waukee area; AND, WHEREAS, the Waukee Betterment Foundation believes that an all-inclusive play area will be a valuable public gathering space that will benefit users of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds; AND, WHEREAS, the Waukee Betterment Foundation desires to partner with the City of Waukee through fundraising for monies to be used in the development, construction and outfitting of an all-inclusive play area. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 16th day of October, 2017, that it does hereby support the fundraising efforts of the Waukee Betterment Foundation for an all-inclusive play area. ____________________________ William F.
