AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution awarding contract [Waukee
Dog Park Phase 1 Project]
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Five bids were received for the Waukee Dog Park on
Wednesday September 27, 2017. The Engineers estimate for phase I of
the dog park was $300,000. The lowest bid received was $575,018.50
from MPS Engineers.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Due to the bids coming in significantly higher than the
engineers estimate, staff has met with the engineer and recommends that
the Waukee City Council reject all bids. Staff continues to work with the
engineer to scale the project back. Staff is recommending that the
project be rebid during the winter months in anticipation of more
competitive bidding. Staff will have a new timeline for the City Council
at Monday’s meeting.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE WAUKEE DOG PARK PHASE 1
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,
STATE OF IOWA:
Section 1. That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Waukee Dog Park Phase 1, described in the plans and specifications
heretofore adopted by this Council on October 2, 2017, be and is hereby accepted, the same
being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:

Section 2. That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
