AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving 2018 legislative priorities
FORMAT: Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: City staff recommends the following 2017 state legislative
priorities:
1. Preserve the tools that give the City the ability to manage and finance growth through the use
of urban renewal districts.
2. Ensure that the commercial and industrial property taxes are fully backfilled each year.
3. Address the negative financial impact on the City of the existing multi-family housing rollback
provisions.
4. Maintain State of Iowa funding sources for local infrastructure projects.
5. Allow cities to diversify their revenues through the establishment of a local option sales tax
through the use of a city-wide referendum.
6. Preserve the ability for the City to make decisions at a local level that is consistent with the
spirit of Home Rule.

RESOLUTION 17-
APPROVING 2018 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City has an interest in several important issues that will be considered by the 2018
Iowa state legislature; AND,
WHEREAS, these issues impact the City’s ability to meet the needs of a growing community and to
operate efficiently, AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee City Council establishes the following 2018 legislative priorities:
1. Preserve the tools that give the City the ability to manage and finance growth through the use
of urban renewal districts.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 16th
day of October, 2017, that it hereby approves the 2018 legislative priorities.
