The City understands that the easement was granted in 1967 and restricts and limits further development of the property beyond its current use today for agricultural purposes. The City of Waukee has seen significant and planned growth over the last decade including a natural outgrowth of development south towards Interstate 80. In anticipation of this growth, the City has made significant investment in utilities and other infrastructure to support both residential and commercial development. Although the City appreciates the intent and purpose of the scenic easement, we believe that with the development that has occurred within the surrounding area that there is a higher and better use for this property. The City of Waukee supports your efforts in working with the Iowa Department of Transportation in the release of the existing Scenic Easement. Sincerely, William F. Peard Mayor
