AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving temporary parking
along certain sections of SE Olson Drive and SE Frontier Avenue
between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on certain dates as
specified
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: City staff met with representative of Sports Plex
West to discuss the parking request. Police Chief Quinn reports the
results of that meeting and City staff’s recommendation on the request in
the attached memo.

RESOLUTION 16-
APPROVING TEMPORARY PARKING ALONG CERTAIN SECTIONS OF SE OLSON
DRIVE AND SE FRONTIER AVENUE BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7:00 A.M. AND
10:00 P.M. ON CERTAIN DATES AS SPECIFIED
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, Sports Plex West will host sports tournaments at their facility on various weekend dates
in early 2016; AND,
WHEREAS, the owners of Sports Plex West request permission to temporarily allow parking along
specific public streets to accommodate participants in the tournaments; AND,
WHEREAS, after meeting with the owners of Sports Plex West regarding their request, City staff
recommends approval of the temporary parking request.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 4th day
of January, 2016, that it hereby approves temporary parking along the north side of SE Olson Drive
from SE Crabapple Drive east to approximately 370 feet west of SE Alice’s Road, and along the west
and south sides of SE Frontier Avenue from SE Olson Drive south and east to approximately 130 feet
west of SE Alice’s Road, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on the weekends of January
23-24, 2016; February 6-7, 2016; February 20-21, 2016; March 5-6, 2016; and March 19-20, 2016.

City staff will monitor and evaluate the success of the strategy during each event and
determine if changes need to be made.
Year 2
Prepare an ordinance for the City Council`s consideration prohibiting parking on the
north side of Olson Drive from west of the median near Alice’s Road to SE
Crabapple, Monday through Fridays from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Meeting with the Owners of Sportsplex West
During the week of December 28th Chief Quinn met with the owners of Sportsplex West, Pat
Yacinich and Jason Pearson, to discuss the recommendation by the City Staff. Both owners
expressed gratitude to the Staff for the making the recommended parking accommodation
to help meet the parking needs of their business during the five weekends in 2016. Owner
Pat Yacinich indicated that he would be present during the January 4th City Council meeting
to answer any questions the Council might have and to show support for the Staff`s
recommendation.
