All such positions shall be at the seasonal staff pay grade. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The City Administrator and Human Resource Director recommend the approval of establishing the seasonal positions and the approval of the job descriptions and pay grade. Lyon Rick Peterson   Parks Laborer (Seasonal) Page 1 Council Approved _______________________ City of Waukee JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Parks Laborer (Seasonal) Reports to: Parks Superintendent Dept/Div: Parks & Recreation/Parks Direct Reports: None Union Status: Non-Represented - Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: Seasonal JOB PURPOSE: The Parks Laborer assists the Full Time staff in development, operation and maintenance of parkland, park facilities and bike trails. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Assists in maintenance and repair of park facilities including mowing, cutting of brush and trimming of trees. 2. Performs routine maintenance on buildings, restrooms, structures, and grounds including cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, painting, shingling, weatherizing and other miscellaneous repairs and maintenance. 3. Participates in park construction and maintenance activities as required. 4. Keeps equipment, shop and storage areas clean and well-maintained. 5. Reports any damaged or broken safety or mechanical equipment or vandalism to the appropriate supervisor. 6. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. High school diploma or GED preferred. 2. Must be 18 years of age. 3. Must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License and meets the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 2. Able to spend the majority of work related time outdoors. 3. Able to maneuver in undeveloped areas on uneven surfaces for up to one mile in various types of weather. 4. Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, vendors and the community. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature may be encountered. 2. During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for entire scheduled work day. 3. Learns and explores all aspects of the Parks & Recreation Department including: program design, planning, analysis and evaluation; needs assessment; personnel management; operations; fiscal management; promotions, marketing and communications; regulatory standards; resource identification; diversity recognition and risk management. 2. Completes and implements internship/senior project required for completion of Bachelor’s Degree. 3. Assists with planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and leading recreational activities and programs. 4. Leads implementation of recreation programs. 5. Supervises participants in areas such as youth programs and activities, adult and youth sports leagues, senior citizen activities, and various tournaments and special events. 6. Prepares Parks & Recreation facilities and maintains as needed. 7. Transports recreation participants as needed. 8. Performs administrative and office duties as assigned. 9. Assists with installation of new gas services. 3. Assists with maintenance of natural gas distribution system. 4. Uses electronic devices such as tablets to capture gas records. 5. Learns and explores all aspects of the GIS Division including: updating spatial databases, reading and interpreting site and subdivision plans or documents and updating attribute information in tabular databases. 2. Digitizes features to update the City’s GIS. 3. Researches, develops and maintains various software applications, programs, automated GIS tools and products. 4. Performs data collection using Global Position System equipment. 5. Assists City departments with GIS related activities and daily GIS or general technology needs. 6. Drives a City owned dump truck to haul a wide range of products related to the Public Works Department’s daily jobs throughout the City. 2. Completes street, sidewalk, storm sewer system and traffic sign maintenance. 3. Assists in all Divisions of Public Works as directed throughout the season. 4. Completes daily maintenance at City facilities such as mowing or cleaning and assists other Divisions as directed. 6. Able to make mathematical calculations for probability and statistical inference as well as geometry and trigonometry. 6.
