AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution adopting the City of Waukee
Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan
FORMAT: Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The Waukee Emerald Ash Borer Management plan was
presented by staff to the City Council at the work session December 14th 2015.
Staff held a public input meeting on Wednesday April 13th at 5:30 p.m. 15
residents attended the meeting, primarily residing along Gray Avenue and
Christopher Street. The residents that attended were very supportive of the
actions being taken by the City of Waukee. They were extremely excited to
hear that the City was not going to come through and do any pre-emptive
removals. The group was appreciative of the idea that we will work on a case
by case basis for replacement of trees removed once they have died. The
meeting lasted 30 minutes.

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff will continue to monitor the ash trees and update the
GIS mapping annually.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan.

RESOLUTION 16-
APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE CITY OF WAUKEE EMERALD ASH BORER
MANAGEMENT PLAN
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized
Municipal Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis) is an invasive wood boring beetle that
attacks and kills ash trees; AND,
WHEREAS, Emerald Ash Borer infestations have been confirmed in many Iowa counties,
including Dallas County; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department and Waukee Public Works
Department recommend the approval and adoption of a City of Waukee Emerald Ash Borer
Management Plan in order to mitigate the damage and cost associated with infestation of the
Emerald Ash Borer on City-owned ash trees.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council that it
hereby approves the City of Waukee Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan, attached hereto
as Exhibit A.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved the 18th day of April,
2016.
