AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the temporary
closing of certain public streets for the Celebrate Waukee Festival
FORMAT: Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The temporary street closings are related to
various events, including a parade, that are planned for the Celebrate
Waukee festival.

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and
grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 16-
APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS FOR
THE CELEBRATE WAUKEE FESTIVAL
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the Celebrate Waukee Planning Committee requests the following temporary
closures of specific public streets for activities associated with the Celebrate Waukee Festival:
Festival: The temporary closing of Walnut Street from 5th Street west to 6th Street, and
Walnut Street from 6th Street west 125 feet to the alley beginning 8:00 a.m. on Friday,
June 3, 2016, and ending 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016
Parade: The temporary closing of Locust Street from 5th Street west to 6th Street; 6th
Street from Locust Street north to Ashworth Drive; Ashworth Drive from 6th Street south
and east to 4th Street; 4th Street from Ashworth Drive south to Northview Drive;
Northview Drive from 4th Street east to S. Warrior Lane; S. Warrior Lane from
Northview Drive south to SE Park Road where the parade participants will disburse,
beginning 12:30 p.m. and ending when the parade is concluded on Saturday, June 4, 2016
Fireworks Display: The temporary closing of SE University Avenue from S. Warrior
Lane east to SE L.A. Grant Parkway and S. Warrior Lane from SE University Avenue
north to SE Park Road beginning 8:30 p.m. and ending 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4,
2016; AND,
WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by
resolution;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
5th day of May, 2016, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of certain public streets for
the Celebrate Waukee Festival.
