HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-05-02-J01J Street Closing - 4th of July AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: May 2, 2016 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the temporary closing of certain public streets for the Waukee 4th of July Celebration FORMAT: Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The temporary street closings are related to various events, including a parade, that are planned for the 4th of July celebration. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY: Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 16- APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS FOR THE WAUKEE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department requests the following temporary closures of specific public streets for activities associated with the 4th of July Celebration:  Parade: The temporary closing of Locust Street from 5th Street west to 7th Street; 7th Street from Locust Street north to Ashworth Drive; Ashworth Drive from 7th Street south and east to 4th Street; 4th Street from Ashworth Drive south to Northview Drive; Northview Drive from 4th Street east to S. Warrior Lane; S. Warrior Lane from Northview Drive south to the entrance to the Waukee Middle School parking lot where the parade participants will disburse, beginning 2:30 p.m. and ending when the parade is concluded on Monday, July 4, 2016  Fireworks Display: The temporary closing of SE University Avenue from S. Warrior Lane east to SE L.A. Grant Parkway and S. Warrior Lane from SE University Avenue north to SE Park Road beginning 8:30 p.m. and ending 10:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2016; AND, WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 5th day of May, 2016, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of certain public streets for the Waukee 4th of July Celebration. ____________________________ William F.
