AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the temporary
closing and one-way designation of certain public streets for the
BACooN Bike Ride
FORMAT: Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: On 05/02/2016, the City Council approved a
temporary one-way street designation for Park Road for the BACooN
Bike Ride. That resolution contained a directional error, asking that
traffic move westward when it should move eastward. The Waukee
Police Department also recommends the temporary closure of S. Warrior
Lane for a portion of the morning of the ride.

RESOLUTION 16-
APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING AND ONE-WAY DESIGNATION OF
CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS FOR THE BACOON BIKE RIDE
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, Centennial Park in Waukee will act as the starting point for the BACooN Bike Ride on
Saturday, June 18, 2016; AND,
WHEREAS, Centennial Park shall also serve as a camping site for BACooN Bike Ride participants
the evening of Friday, June 17, 2016; AND,
WHEREAS, on May 2, 2016, the Waukee City Council approved a resolution allowing the temporary
one-way traffic designation of Park Road on Friday, June 17, 2016 for the BACooN Bike Ride
(Resolution #16-150); AND,
WHEREAS, the one-way traffic designation approved in Resolution #16-150 contained a directional
error; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee Police Department also recommends the temporary closing of certain public
streets in an effort to improve traffic flow and increase safety for the event; AND,
WHEREAS, pursuant to Code of Iowa §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily
closed by resolution;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 16th
day of May, 2016, that it hereby approves the temporary designation of Park Road from Ashworth
Drive west to Warrior Lane as a one-way street, with the direction of traffic moving eastward, from
12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the temporary closing of S. Warrior Lane from University
Avenue north to Ashworth Drive/Northview Drive from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18,
2016, is approved.
