HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-06-20-J01G Home Base Iowa Initiative Support AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: June 20, 2016 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution supporting the Home Base Iowa initiative FORMAT: Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The Home Base Iowa Initiative is a statewide private- public partnership to recruit veterans and transitioning service members for private-sector careers in Iowa. Home Base Iowa exists to support service members and to improve the State of Iowa’s workforce. The Office of the Governor calls for communities within Iowa to support the initiative by earning the Home Base Iowa Community designation. Summary of Community Incentives PREPARED BY: Jenna Herr REVIEWED BY: PUBLIC NOTICE INFORMATION – NAME OF PUBLICATION: DATE OF PUBLICATION: DRAFT THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 16- A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE HOME BASE IOWA INITIATIVE IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the Office of the Governor of the State of Iowa has launched a public- private partnership called Home Base Iowa initiative, which is an effort to match military veterans with jobs available across Iowa; AND, WHEREAS, the Home Base Iowa initiative consists of two programs, Home Base Iowa Businesses and Home Base Iowa Communities; AND, WHEREAS, Governor Branstad requests Iowa businesses and communities to promote and support the Home Base Iowa initiative and one of the requirements for Waukee to be a Home Base Community is that the City Council adopt a resolution of support; AND, WHEREAS, the City Council of Waukee finds that it is in the best interest of the City of Waukee and veterans everywhere to support the Home Base Iowa initiative and adopt this resolution; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA: Section 1. The City Council of Waukee hereby proclaims its support for the Home Base Iowa initiative. Section 2. The City Council encourages Waukee businesses to take whatever actions are necessary to become and continue to be a Home Base Iowa Business. Section 3. The Mayor and City Administrator are authorized to take such further action as may be necessary to carry out the intent and purpose of this resolution. Hickman Road, Waukee, IA 50263 515-978-7910 • Waukee.org Summary of Home Base Iowa Community Incentives In support of the State of Iowa’s Home Base Iowa Initiative, the City of Waukee has established a set of community incentives to facilitate a smooth transition from active duty to civilian life in Waukee. Waukee provides these benefits to veterans relocating to Waukee after July 1, 2016. Benefit Description Building Permit Fee Waiver A waiver up to $250 on building permit fees for new homes or remodels, including fences, pools and accessory structures. Utility Deposit Waiver A $100 waiver on gas and water utility deposit upon move-in. Utility Credit A $200 credit applied upon move-in to city utility account (includes water, sewer, gas and garbage). Parks and Recreation Credit $100 credit upon move-in toward any Parks and Recreation program administered by the City of Waukee to be used by Veterans or their immediate family members. Sugar Creek Golf Course Credit A free 10-hole punch card to golf at the Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course. Free Portable Irrigation Meter A free portable irrigation meter for homeowners to save sewer charges on water used for irrigation or other outside purposes.
