HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-08-01-J14 Hickman-Alices Rd IDOT Funding Appl Authorization AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: August 1, 2016 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution authorizing the City of Waukee, Iowa, to submit an application to the Iowa Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Improvement Program for funding for the Hickman Road and Alice’s Road Intersection Improvements Project FORMAT: Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The resolution states the City supports and approves the application, the City will commit funding for the project, and will maintain the improvements. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends approval. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY: John Gibson REVIEWED BY: THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 16- AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TRAFFIC SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FUNDING FOR THE HICKMAN ROAD AND ALICE’S ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County; AND, WHEREAS, the Iowa Department of Transportation has established the Traffic Safety Improvement Program and provides funding for locations where vehicular safety is a concern and documented; AND, WHEREAS, the intersection of Hickman Road and Alice’s Road has been identified as a location where vehicular safety and traffic flow could be improved and funded by Traffic Safety Improvement Program; AND, WHEREAS, the City of Waukee has determined that by providing addition of vehicle capacity to the intersection of Alice’s Road with Hickman Road through roadway widening will help reduce crashes and improve traffic operations. Increased capacity will be obtained with an additional left turn lane, one through lane, and dedicated right turn lane on each approach of the intersection. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 1st day of August, 2016, that: 1. City Council supports and approves the application for Traffic Safety Improvement Program funding. 2. The City Council hereby commits the additional City funds necessary for construction of the project beyond and Traffic Safety Improvement Program funding. 3. The City Council hereby commits to accepting and maintaining these improvements. 4.
