AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving disbursement of
funds for Waukee Veterans’ Hall building improvements in the amount
of $2,500.00
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The City of Waukee leases the Veterans’ Hall to the
Waukee American Legion and Waukee VFW for $1.00 per year for their
club activities. The lease prescribes the obligations of each party in the
maintenance of the facility. The two organizations are planning on
improving the outdoor canopy and the floor of the building with
volunteers and raised funds, including a $2,000 donation from the Home
Depot. Improvements also need to be made to the electrical system for
approximately $2,500.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: In recognition of their efforts to improve the building
and their role in making Waukee a better place to live, City staff
recommends a contribution of $2,500 toward their building improvement
efforts. Should the electrical improvements amount to less than $2,500,
there are other worthy projects for which the funds can be used.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 16-
APPROVING DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS FOR WAUKEE VETERANS’ HALL
BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500.00
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee; Waukee Post 11517 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United
States, Inc.; and Waukee Post 737, the American Legion, Department of Iowa, Inc, have entered
into a lease agreement for City-owned property addressed as 410 6th Street (Resolution #16-153),
hereinafter referred to as Waukee Veterans’ Hall; AND,
WHEREAS, the Lessees are planning facility improvement, including the outdoor canopy, the
interior flooring, and electrical system upgrades; AND,
WHEREAS, in recognition of their efforts to improve the building and for their role in making
Waukee a better place to live, City staff recommends a contribution of $2,500 toward the
Waukee Veterans’ Hall building improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa
on this 15th day of August, 2016, that the City shall contribute $2,500.00 toward building
improvements at Waukee Veterans’ Hall.
