AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving Professional Service
Agreement for Joint Waukee/WDMWW Source Water Availability Study
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Waukee’s water needs are projected to triple in 2035 to
10.2 million gallons per day. Des Moines Water Works has informed all their
suburban water customers that they will have to pay for the future
improvements for additional water capacity. The agreement with Veenstra &
Kimm, Inc. will provide both the City of West Des Moines and City of
Waukee with the feasibility of access to future water sources. The agreement
contains 3 tasks: Task 1 - Source Water Evaluation; Task 2 - Evaluation; Task
3 - Test Pumping and Water Allocation Permitting.
Task 1 and Task 2 will be performed immediately; once they are completed
the decision will be made to move onto task 3.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
Task 1 and Task 2 - $84,100
Task 3 (if needed) - $54,339

APPROVING PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH VEENSTRA &
KIMM, INC., FOR JOINT WAUKEE/WEST DES MOINES WATER WORKS SOURCE
WATER AVAILABILITY STUDY
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the Cities of Waukee and West Des Moines propose a professional services
agreement with Veenstra & Kimm, Inc., related to a joint source water availability study; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee City Attorney has reviewed the proposed agreement and finds it
satisfactory.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa
on this 23rd day of August, 2016, that the Professional Service Agreement with Veenstra &
Kimm, Inc., for Joint Waukee/West Des Moines Water Works Source Water Availability Study
is hereby approved.
