Proclamation PREPARED BY: Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA PROCLAMATION IN RECOGNITION OF JIM MILLER FOR HIS WORK ON THE RACCOON RIVER VALLEY TRAILHEAD PUBLIC ART PROJECT IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, several years ago, a dedicated group of Raccoon River Valley Trail users, art lovers, and Waukee residents approached the City with an idea for a public art installation at the Waukee trailhead –the eastern gateway to the Raccoon River Valley Trail system; AND, WHEREAS, in order to make their vision a reality, and with the full support and cooperation of the Waukee City Council, the public art group took the lead in raising funds toward the cost of the design and installation of “Waukee Railroad Pergola – In the Shadow of the Rails”; AND, WHEREAS, Jim Miller’s role in project fundraising cannot be overstated – reaching out to and speaking with potential donors, and translating his passion for the project into nearly $450,000 in donations; AND, WHEREAS, through Jim’s vision, perseverance and determination, the public art project will stand as a scenic gateway to Waukee, inviting thousands of trail users to our community and opening the door to a premier trail system that links communities as once did the railroad. NOW THEREFORE, I, William F. Peard, Mayor of Waukee, do hereby recognize and thank Jim Miller for his long hours and hard work in order to make a reality the Raccoon River Valley Trailhead Public Art Project: “Waukee Railroad Pergola – In the Shadow of the Rails.” IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City of Waukee to be affixed this October 3, 2016. ________________________________ William F.
