AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution recognizing City Week Iowa,
October 10-14, 2016
FORMAT: Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The Iowa League of Cities encourages its member cities to
recognize City Week Iowa as part of an ongoing effort to raise public
awareness about the services that cities perform and to educate the public on
how city government works. The City of Waukee plans to promote City Week
Iowa through social media and other initiatives.

RESOLUTION 16-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE RECOGNIZING
CITY WEEK IOWA, OCTOBER 10-14, 2016
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, city government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the
most direct daily impact upon its residents; AND,
WHEREAS, city government is administered for and by its citizens, and is dependent upon public
commitment to and understanding of its many responsibilities; AND,
WHEREAS, city government officials and employees share the responsibility to pass along their
understanding of public services and their benefits; AND,
WHEREAS, City Week Iowa is a very important time to recognize the important role played by
city government in our lives; AND,
WHEREAS, this week offers an important opportunity to spread the word to all the citizens of
Iowa that they can shape and influence the level of government which is closest to the people;
AND,
WHEREAS, the Iowa League of Cities and its member cities have joined together to teach
students and other citizens about municipal government through a variety of different
informational publications and projects; AND,
WHEREAS, City Week Iowa offers an important opportunity to convey to all the citizens of Iowa
that they can shape and influence government through their civic involvement.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF WAUKEE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City of Waukee encourages all citizens, city government officials and
employees to do everything possible to ensure that this week is recognized and celebrated
accordingly.
Section 2. That the City of Waukee encourages educational partnerships between city
government and schools.
Section 3. That the City of Waukee supports and encourages all city governments to
actively promote and sponsor "City Week Iowa."
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved the 3rd day of October,
2016.
