HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-10-03-J09 Ordinance_NE Horizon Speed Limit INTRO, 1ST READ AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: October 3, 2016 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of an ordinance to amend Chapter 501, Waukee Municipal Code, Regarding the speed limit on NE Horizon Drive within the City Limits of the City of Waukee [introduction; first readings] FORMAT: Ordinance SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Upon citizen request, the City hired Snyder and Associates to perform a speed study. The result of the Speed Study was to increase the speed limit on NE Horizon to 30 MPH. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: RECOMMENDATION: Introduce the ordinance and approve the first reading in title only. Proposed Ordinance PREPARED BY: Beth Richardson REVIEWED BY: John Gibson PUBLIC NOTICE INFORMATION – NAME OF PUBLICATION: DATE OF PUBLICATION: 1 ORDINANCE NO. ______ AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 501, WAUKEE MUNICIPAL CODE, REGARDING THE SPEED LIMIT ON NE HORIZON DRIVE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA. WHEREAS, the City of Waukee has obtained the results of a traffic study prepared by Snyder & Associates dated July 28, 2016; AND WHEREAS, the City of Waukee has determined to implement changes to their ordinance relative to the speed limit on NE Horizon Drive as a result of said traffic study. BE IT THEREFORE ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Waukee: Section 1: Chapter 501, Waukee Municipal Code, Regulation of Traffic Upon and Use of the Streets of Waukee, Iowa, is hereby amended by adding Section 501.9(F)(16) as follows: §501.9(F)(16) The speed limit on NE Horizon Drive between NE Westgate Drive and NE Alice’s Road shall be 30 miles per hour. Section 2 Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 3. Severability Clause. If any section, provision or part of this ordinance shall be adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the ordinance as a whole or any section, provisions or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional. Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in effect from and after its final passage, approval and publication as provided by law.
