AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving purchase of irrigation
equipment from TurfWorks of Johnston, IA, in the amount of $52,182.53
[Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course]
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: This resolution is for the purchase of irrigation wire, surge
arrestors, grounding, and 215 internal communication modules for each
sprinkler head. The sewer project will cross the irrigation system in 14
different locations, causing the wires to be spliced 14 different times. The
current irrigation is the original system installed when the course was built.
The new system would only require two wires to be pulled to each sprinkler
head and would allow for flexibility in the future. The new irrigation wiring
system does not have above ground electrical controllers. In the past 3 years
the above ground controllers have been hit 3 times by lightning.
Attached is a letter from TurfWerks noting that they are the sole source
provider for Rainbird products in our area. We currently have Rainbird
computer system and sprinkler heads, requiring the Rainbird wiring.
The $52,182.53 is for the materials only. Staff is currently seeking quotes
from three contractors for the installation of the materials. It is anticipated
that staff will be presenting a contract for installation at the October 17th
meeting. The desire is for the irrigation wiring install to be completed prior to
the ground freezing.

APPROVING PURCHASE OF IRRIGATION EQUIPMENT FROM
TURFWORKS OF JOHNSTON, IA, IN THE AMOUNT OF $52,182.53
[SUGAR CREEK MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas
County; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee Parks and Recreation Department recommends the
purchase of Rainbird irrigation equipment from TurfWorks of Johnston, IA, in the
amount of $52,182.53; AND,
WHEREAS, the Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course uses the Rainbird computer
system and sprinkler heads, requiring Rainbird wiring; AND,
WHEREAS, TurfWerks is the exclusive provider of Rainbird products in Iowa and
certain surrounding states.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in
session this 10th day of October, 2016, that it hereby approves the purchase of irrigation
equipment from TurfWorks of Johnston, IA, in the amount of $52,182.53 [Sugar Creek
Municipal Golf Course].

Distributor can offer you direct Rain Bird golf products under this agreement.

products in the following States: Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and parts of Illinois.
