AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution awarding grant funding to Waukee
Hardware as part of the City of Waukee Downtown Façade Improvement
Program
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Staff has received an application for the Façade
Improvement Program from Geoff Warmouth, owner of Waukee Hardware, located at 380 6th Street.
The submitted application is requesting matching funds in the amount of $6,520.75 to repair/replace
the siding on the Waukee Hardware Building. As stated in the adopted Façade Improvement Program
criteria, repair to siding is within the permitted scope of work to receive funding from the program.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: The Council had previously
approved the use of TIF dollars in the amount of $30,000 toward the
Downtown Façade Improvement Program with a maximum award of $7,500.
The application related to the Waukee Hardware is in the amount of $6,250.75
and is equal to half the total project cost.
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: The Downtown Design Committee
reviewed the Façade Improvement Program Application on November 4, 2016
and recommended approval.
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff would recommend approval of the Façade
Improvement Grant.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution

RESOLUTION 16-
APPROVAL OF A GRANT AWARD TO WAUKEE HARDWARE AS PART OF THE
DOWNTOWN FAÇADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized
Municipal Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, on March 5, 2012, the Waukee City Council approved a Downtown Façade
Improvement Program (Resolution #12-50) to make financial assistance available to
businesses, organizations, and property owners within Downtown Waukee for the
preservation, maintanence, and general improvement of the physical appearances of their
properties thereby creating an environment that is aesthetically pleasing and facilitates an
increase in pedestrian traffic; AND,
WHEREAS, on October 24, 2011 the Waukee City Council approved the Downtown Design
Guidelines (Resolution #11-202) that provide guidance for the exterior appearance of
properties within specified areas of the Downtown; AND,
WHEREAS, Geoff Warmouth, owner of Waukee Hardware at 380 6th Street, has submitted a
Façade Improvement Program Application requesting grant funding in the amount of
$6,520.75 equal to half of the total project costs associated with repairing and replacing the
siding on Waukee Hardware; AND,
WHEREAS, the Façade Improvement Program Application submitted for the repairing and
replacing of the siding on Waukee Hardware is in conformance with the guidelines, terms,
and conditions set forth in the Downtown Façade Improvement Program; AND,
WHEREAS, Façade Improvement Program Grants are awarded as a reimbursement for the
actual costs incurred by the applicant after the project has been completed; AND,
WHEREAS, the Downtown Design Committee reviewed the Façade Improvement Program
Application at their November 4, 2016 meeting and recommended approval of the Downtown
Façade Improvement Program Grant for Waukee Hardware; AND,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session
this 7th day of November 2016 that a Grant Award in the amount of $6,520.75 is approved for
the repairing and siding of Waukee Hardware.
