AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a Resolution approving and adopting the
Walnut Creek Watershed Master Plan
FORMAT: Public Hearing
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: A portion of the City of Waukee is located within
the Walnut Creek Watershed Authority. The City Council has previously
agreed to be a part of the Walnut Creek Watershed Authority. Over the
past several months, the Authority has worked on the completion of a
Master Plan which provides recommendations on practices and
improvement projects throughout the watershed. Each member
community of the Authority has been asked to adopt the Walnut Creek
Master Plan.

RESOLUTION 16-
APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE WALNUT CREEK WATERSHED MASTER
PLAN
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Code of Iowa Chapter 28E, the City of Waukee entered into
an agreement in that established a watershed management authority for Walnut Creek; AND,
WHEREAS, watershed management authorities are a mechanism for cities, counties, Soil and
Water Conservation Districts and stakeholders to cooperatively engage in watershed planning
and management; AND,
WHEREAS, the watershed management authority has pursued the development of a
comprehensive master plan that established a vision for engaging residents working across
political boundaries to create and sustain a healthy watershed; AND,
WHEREAS, the watershed management authority held numerous open house sessions,
stakeholder meetings, and other public engagement activities throughout the course of
development of the master plan that has allowed the public to engage in the development of the
master plan and review the draft master plan document; AND
WHEREAS, the Staff and City Council of the City of Waukee has reviewed the draft master
plan document and agrees with the recommendations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WAUKEE, IOWA:
That the City Council hereby approves the Walnut Creek Watershed Master Plan, finding that it
provides an acceptable guide for improvements to flood mitigation, water quality, natural
resource protection, and recreation while maintaining economic health for all within the Walnut
Creek Watershed. Furthermore, staff is directed to begin integrating the recommendations found
within the Master Plan into the City's planning and development.
