AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant
application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA)
Community Attraction and Tourism Grant on behalf of the City of Waukee
and the Waukee Betterment Foundation.

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: This resolution is an approval to submit a grant application
for Community Attraction and Tourism Grant. Fundraising efforts for the construction of the Miracle
League Field, Epic Playground, and the handicap accessible fishing pier are going strong and showing
good results. To date the Waukee Betterment Foundation has raised $2,249,246 through corporate and
individual donations and grants. There have been 88 different donations of $2,500 or more. The
remaining amount to be raised is $388,754. The Project Committee has identified the Community
Attraction and Tourism Grant as a good fit for this project. The Grant application deadline is August
27, 2021. The grant application will request the remaining funds needed to finish out the project. This
request does not require any additional funding commitment by the City of Waukee.
The action being requested of the Council at this time is approval to submit a grant application for the
Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Community Attraction and Tourism Grant.

RESOLUTION 2021-
AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE IOWA
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (IEDA) COMMUNITY ATTRACTION
AND TOURISM GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE AND THE
WAUKEE BETTERMENT FOUNDATION
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the provision of open spaces, parks and trails is an essential function of city
government; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee and the Waukee Betterment Foundation have identified the
Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Community Attraction and Tourism Grant as a
potential funding source for construction of the project structures and related site improvements
related to the Miracle League® Field, EPIC Playground and ADA-compliant fishing pier within
Triumph Park; AND,
WHEREAS, the grant request does not require any additional funding commitment by the City
of Waukee.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council that it hereby
authorizes the submittal of a grant application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority
(IEDA) Community Attraction and Tourism Grant program on behalf of the City of Waukee and
the Waukee Betterment Foundation.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved the 16th day of August,
2021.
