THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
RESOLUTION 2021-
APPROVING FY2023 BUDGET DIRECTIVES AND CALENDAR
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County;
AND,
WHEREAS, the objective for FY2023 Budget Directives is to provide guidance for the
development of the City of Waukee FY2023 budget and present a fiscally responsible budget to
the City Council, allowing the Council to evaluate and approve a budget based on prudent policy
decisions; AND,
WHEREAS, the following budget directives are approved:
1)Work to reduce the City’s current levy by $0.20 to $13.10 / per $1,000
2)Fiscally responsible Debt Service planning to meet Capital Improvement Plan needs
3)Invest resources to drive economic development and commercial taxable valuation
4)Minimize the levels of enterprise funds’ future rate increases and fee structures
5)Leverage City resources to attract entertainment, sports tourism and regional venues
6)Align staffing & facilities plan with City priorities to meet needs of growing community
7)Develop adequate maintenance schedules for capital facilities and infrastructure
8)Find optimal level to determine the timing of equipment purchase & replacement
9)Utilize technology resources for operations and decision making
10)Provide transparency in budget documents and public meetings; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee City Council also approves the following FY2023 Budget calendar:
1)Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) work session: December 13, 2021
2)Budget work session (all departments): January 24, 2022
3)Final budget work session (if needed): January 31, 2022
4)Public Hearing and consideration of approval of proposal for FY2023 Budget to exceed
102%: March 7, 2022
5)Public Hearing and consideration of approval of proposed FY2023 Budget: March 21,
2022
6)Public Hearing and consideration of approval of Capital Improvement Plan (CIP): March
21, 2022
7)State of Iowa filing deadline: March 31, 2022
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
4th day of October, 2021, that it hereby approves the FY2023 budget directives and calendar.
