JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Winter On-Call Parks Laborer (Seasonal) Reports to: Assistant Director P&R
Dept/Div: Parks & Recreation/Parks Direct Reports: None
Pay Grade: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
JOB PURPOSE: The Winter On-Call Parks Laborer assists the full time staff in snow removal, maintenance
of parkland, park facilities, ice rinks and bike trails.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.)
1. Assists in maintenance and repair of park facilities including cutting of brush and trimming of trees, and
trash pick-up.
2. Performs routine maintenance on buildings and structures, including painting, weatherizing and other
miscellaneous repairs and maintenance.
3. Utilizes shovel, snow blower, small-motorized equipment, and truck for snow removal of city owned
facilities, parks, trails and sidewalks.
4. Prepares, installs and removes holiday decorations.
5. Maintains outdoor ice rinks as needed.
6. Keeps equipment, shop and storage areas clean and well maintained.
7. Reports any damaged or broken safety or mechanical equipment or vandalism to the appropriate
supervisor.
8. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or GED preferred.
2. Must be 18 years of age or older.
3. Must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License and meets the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
2. Able to spend the majority of work related time outdoors.
3. Able to maneuver in undeveloped areas on uneven surfaces for up to one mile in various types of
weather.
4. Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic
devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, vendors and the community.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature may
be encountered.
2. During winter months outside temperatures can be at freezing for entire scheduled work day.
3. During different job duties the noise inside or outside can become very loud
4. May be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper
procedures are not followed.
5. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards.
6. Works hours will be on-call, as needed, and may include evening or weekend hours as required.
7. There is no residency requirement for this position.
