JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Summer Reading Program Assistant Reports to: Assistant Director - Library
Dept/Div: Library Direct Reports: None
Pay Grade: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
JOB PURPOSE: The Summer Reading Program Assistant (SRPA) primarily assists members of the public
participating in the Summer Reading Program or aides other library staff with specific
summer events. Occasionally, the SRPA may be called upon to check in and/or shelve
library materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Registers library users for the Summer Reading Program, and explains the program to them.
2. Passes out prizes for the Summer Reading Program as participants reach designated levels.
3. Documents participants’ reading progress throughout the summer.
4. Assists library staff with events for school aged children.
5. Ensures regular and punctual attendance to allow for effective teamwork with other employees, face-to-
face interaction with patrons and staff, and working with items or equipment located at the Waukee Public
Library.
6. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
SUCCESS FACTORS:
1. Actively greet and offer assistance to library users and other staff.
2. Exhibit a cheerful attitude.
3. Ask for clarification as needed.
4. Seek to resolve problems by bringing them to the attention of the supervisor in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have basic computer skills.
2. Be comfortable working in close proximity to persons of all ages.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English with other employees and library users.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Climate-controlled building with minimal outdoor work required.
2. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours
within Waukee Public Library building.
