HomeMy WebLinkAboutPW - Streets Laborer Seasonal Streets Laborer (Seasonal) Page 1 Council Approved 02-16-16 Revised 10-2021 City of Waukee JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Streets Laborer (Seasonal) Reports to: Streets Superintendent Dept/Div: Public Works/Streets Direct Reports: None Pay Grade: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt JOB PURPOSE: The Streets Laborer will assist the Full Time staff in the Streets Division with the maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, storm sewer systems and traffic signs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Assists with the maintenance of all City roads/streets by patching and sealing. 2. Assists with installation and repair of signs. 3. Paints cross walks and parking lines on streets. 4. Mows right-of-way. 5. Cleans and maintains Streets Division vehicles and equipment. 6. Assists in all aspects of Public Works throughout season. 7. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. SUCCESS FACTORS: 1. Attentive to the City’s standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency and all City policies and procedures ensuring that all work performed meets those standards. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or GED required. 2. Construction experience preferred. 3. Must be 18 years of age. 4. Must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License and meets the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 2. Able to spend the majority of work related time outdoors. 3. Able to maneuver in undeveloped areas on uneven surfaces for up to one mile in various types of weather. 4. Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, vendors and the community. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature may be encountered. 2. During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for entire scheduled work day. 3. During different job duties the noise inside or outside can become very loud. 4. May be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed. 5. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards. Streets Laborer (Seasonal) Page 2 Council Approved 02-16-16 Revised 10-2021 6. Standard work hours will be Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with additional evening or weekend hours as required. 7. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours within Waukee Public Works Building. 8.
