HomeMy WebLinkAboutPW - Water-Wastewater Laborer Seasonal Water/Wastewater Laborer (Seasonal) Page 1 Council Approved 02-16-17 Revised 01/03/2017 Revised 10-2021 City of Waukee JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Water/Wastewater Laborer (Seasonal) Reports to: Water/Wastewater Superintendent Dept/Div: Public Works/Water-Wastewater Direct Reports: None Pay Grade: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt JOB PURPOSE: The Seasonal Water/Wastewater Laborer will assist the Full Time staff in the safe and reliable distribution of the city’s potable water supply, and the operation, repair and maintenance of the wastewater collection system. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Assists in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant and the wastewater collection system, including lift stations. 2. Installs, repairs, replaces, rereads and special reads water meters as needed. 3. Performs hydrant flushing and flow testing. 4. Assists in valve turning and GIS valve locating. 5. Operates remote camera in wastewater and storm water distribution systems. 6. Assists in all Divisions of Public Works as directed throughout the season. 7. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. SUCCESS FACTORS: 1. Display willingness to listen and learn. 2. Attentive to the City’s and Public Works’ standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency and all City and Department policies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or GED required. 2. Must be 18 years of age. 3. Confident in the use of computers and tablets and able to be trained in software required to complete the functions of the position. 4. Must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License and meet the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Able to regularly lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. 2. Able to move objects weighing over 100 pounds using assistive devices multiple times during the day. 3. Able to enter manholes. 4. Able to climb different types of ladders and stairs. 5. Able to enter and work within confined space with proper training and PPEs. 6. Must have an acute sense of smell to readily detect an unsafe environment. Able to maneuver in undeveloped areas on uneven surfaces for up to one mile in various types of weather. 8. Must be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses and community members. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature will be encountered. 2. During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for entire scheduled work day. 3. During different job duties the noise inside or outside can become very loud. 4. May be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed. 5. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards. 6. Standard work hours will be Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with additional evening or weekend hours as required. 7. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours within Waukee Public Works Building. 8.
