SPECIAL MEETING
March 9, 2020
A. Call to Order — The special meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor Clarke
at 5:33 p.m. at Waukee City Hall, 230 W. Hickman Rd.
B. Roll Call — The following members were present: Mayor Courtney Clarke; Council Members Anna
Bergman, Chris Crone, Larry R. Lyon, Ben Sinclair. Absent: Council Member R. Charles Bottenberg.
Also in attendance: City Administrator Tim Moerman, Development Services Director Brad Deets,
Public Works Director/City Engineer Rudy Koester, Parks & Recreation Director Matt Jermier, Police
Chief John Quinn, City Clerk Rebecca D. Schuett.
C. Agenda Approval — Council Member Bergman moved to approve the agenda, removing consideration
of item D2; seconded by Council Member Lyon. Results of vote: Ayes: Bergman, Crone, Lyon,
Sinclair. Nays: None. Absent: Bottenberg. Motion carried 4 — 0 — 1.
D. Action Items:
1) Motion: Consideration of approval of a motion for the disposal of physical property at
28253 U Avenue — Council Member Bergman moved to approve; seconded by Council Member
Lyon. Development Services Director Deets noted that the current tenants will move out by April
15. City staff recommends soliciting bids to move the home. After a brief discussion, Council
Member Bergman moved to approve soliciting bids for moving the home; Council Member Lyon
amended the second. Results of vote: Ayes: Bergman, Crone, Lyon, Sinclair. Nays: None.
Absent: Bottenberg. Motion carried 4 — 0 — 1.
2) REMOVED FROM AGENDA
Prior to the work session, Police Chief Quinn reported on police response to an incident involving the school
district.
E. Work Session:
1) Goal Setting and Strategic Planning Preparation — Mayor and council reviewed and discussed
City trends, population projections, land use, housing, parks and recreation, and stormwater
management.
F. Council Liaison Reports — Reports made by Mayor Clarke; Council Members Sinclair, Crone,
Bergman and Lyon.
G. Comments
Council Member Lyon moved to adjourn; seconded by Council Member Crone. Ayes: All. Nays: None.
Motion carried 4 — 0.
Meeting Adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
