WORK SESSION MEETING
February 28, 2022
A. Call to Order — The work session meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by
Mayor Clarke at 5:31 p.m. at Waukee City Hall, 230 W. Hickman Rd.
B. Roll Call — The following members were present: Mayor Courtney Clarke; Council Members R.
Charles Bottenberg, Chris Crone, Larry R. Lyon (electronically), Anna Bergman Pierce
(electronically), Ben Sinclair. Absent: None.
Also in attendance: City Administrator Tim Moerman, Assistant City Administrator Brad Deets,
Parks & Recreation Director Matt Jermier, Assistant Parks & Recreation Director Josh
VandeKamp, Economic Development Coordinator Jennifer Brown, Police Lt. Scott Cunningham,
City Clerk Rebecca D. Schuett.
C. Agenda Approval — Council Member Crone moved to approve the agenda; seconded by Council
Member Sinclair. Results of vote: Ayes: Bottenberg, Crone, Lyon, Pierce, Sinclair. Nays: None.
Motion carried 5 — 0.
D. Work Session:
1) Water venues discussion — Jeff Bartley with Waters Edge Aquatic Design reviewed
industry trends; the advantages and disadvantages of splash pads and aquatic centers;
preliminary costs, capacity and staffing projections; and different considerations for indoor
and outdoor facilities. There was much discussion regarding possible next steps, including a
feasibility study. The council agreed to discuss the matter further during upcoming strategic
planning sessions.
2) Trails Master Plan — Charlie Cowell with RDG presented the draft plan, including
opportunities, best routes, access, wayfinding, possible trailheads and plan implementation.
E. Comments
Council Member Bottenberg moved to adjourn; seconded by Council Member Sinclair. Ayes: All.
Nays: None. Motion carried 5 — 0.
