SPECIAL MEETING
October 21, 2022
A. Call to Order — The special meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor Clarke
at 12:23 p.m. at Waukee City Hall, 230 W. Hickman Rd.
B. Roll Call — The following members were present: Mayor Courtney Clarke; Council Members R. Charles
Bottenberg, Chris Crone, Larry R. Lyon, Anna Bergman Pierce, Ben Sinclair. Absent: None. (Council
Member Bottenberg left the meeting at 1:33 p.m.)
Also in attendance: City Administrator Brad Deets, Human Resources Director Michelle Lindsay, City
Clerk Rebecca D. Schuett, Jeff Cayler with Cayler Consulting, LLC.
C. Agenda Approval — Council Member Bottenberg moved to approve the agenda; seconded by Council
Member Sinclair. Results of vote: Ayes: Bottenberg, Crone, Lyon, Pierce, Sinclair. Nays: None.
Motion carried 5 — 0.
D. Closed Session: Pursuant to Code of Iowa §21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency
of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered
when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual's reputation and
that individual requests a closed session — Council Member Bottenberg moved to close the regular
session and enter closed session pursuant to Code of Iowa §21.5(1)(i); seconded by Council Member
Crone. Results of vote: Ayes: Bottenberg, Crone, Lyon, Pierce, Sinclair. Nays: None. Motion carried 5
— 0. Council entered closed session at 12:24 p.m.
CLOSED SESSION
Council entered regular session at 12:35 p.m.
E. Closed Session: Pursuant to Code of Iowa §21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency
of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered
when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual's reputation and
that individual requests a closed session — Council Member Crone moved to close the regular
session and enter closed session pursuant to Code of Iowa §21.5(1)(i); seconded by Council Member
Sinclair. Results of vote: Ayes: Bottenberg, Crone, Lyon, Pierce, Sinclair. Nays: None. Motion carried
5 — 0. Council entered closed session at 12:36 p.m.

F. Closed Session: Pursuant to Code of Iowa §21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency

Council Member Lyon moved to adjourn; seconded by Council Member Crone. Ayes: All. Nays: None.
