HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-12-05 Resolution 2022-522_Des Moines International Airport Terminal, Resolution of Support RevisedTHE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 2022-522 REVISED RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR NEW DES MOINES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TERMINAL PROJECT WHEREAS, the City of Waukee. Iowa ("the City") is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County, AND, WHEREAS, the Des Moines Airport Authority ("the Authority") has prepared a Terminal Area Concept Plan in support of needed improvements to the Des Moines International Airport ("the Airport") terminal complex; AND, WHEREAS, the existing Airport terminal building was first built in 1948 and, although it has been subject to upgrades and improvements over the years, it has reached the end of its useful economic life; AND, WHEREAS, the total estimated cost for the new terminal and all associated design and construction is more than five hundred thirty million dollars ($530,000,000), AND, WHEREAS, to date, the Authority has spent approximately sixty four million ($64,000,000) of its reserves on enabling projects to reposition tenants and infrastructure on the Airport in preparation of the future terminal site; AND, WHEREAS, the timeline for terminal construction is dependent on funding availability, but design could begin as soon as 2022 with construction in years 2024-2026; AND, WHEREAS, the City desires to support the new Airport terminal project as it will benefit the current and future residents and businesses of the City by providing a vibrant regional airport; AND, WHEREAS, on December 20, 2021, the City approved a Resolution of' Support for the Airport terminal project (Resolution 42021-531), AND, WHEREAS, a revised Resolution of Support is recommended to clarify the City"s contribution criteria. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA that: 1. City agrees to contribute a total of $722,670.00 in monetary support for the new Airport terminal project. 2. City's contribution shall be made in five annual payments beginning in 1�iscal Year 2024 and contingent on the Airport Authority obtaining the remaining funding needed to complete construction. 3. City is not seeking a role in the governance of the Airport Authority in exchange for this contribution. 4. This contribution is subject to the City's participation on an advisory committee to provide input and recommendations to the Authority during the design and construction of the new Airport terminal project.
