HomeMy WebLinkAboutPR - Parks Crew LeadParks Crew Lead Council Approved 6-5-2023 Page 1 City of Waukee JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Parks Crew Lead Reports to: Assistant P&R Director Dept/Div: Parks & Recreation/Parks Direct Reports: None Pay Grade: N25 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt JOB PURPOSE: The Parks Crew Lead delegates and organizes work crews for specific daily activities while completing the same or similar work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Delegates and organizes daily activities of the Parks Department work crews while completing the same or similar work. Trains new employees and provides input for annual performance evaluations of division staff. 2. Coordinates with the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director on the routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish maintenance goals within the department and throughout the City. 3. Assists in construction, maintenance and repair of park facilities. 4. Observes and participates in project work and makes decisions as to the quality of work and whether it meets departmental standards. 5. Encourages and promotes compliance with safety rules and the use of safety equipment. 6. Reports any damages or broken safety or mechanical equipment, and vandalism to the appropriate supervisor. 7. Performs all duties of a Parks Laborer; including but not limited to mowing, trimming, snow removal, festivals and events, operating equipment and routine park maintenance. 8. Responds to emergency and on-call situations for any Parks & Recreation Department issues in a timely manner. 9. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. Parks Crew Lead Council Approved 6-5-2023 Page 2 QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or GED. 2. Three years’ experience in a related field required. 3. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License 4. Must obtain or have the ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within 12 months of employment. 5. Must obtain or have the ability to obtain a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (SPSI) certification within 24 months of employment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Able to regularly lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 2. Able to spend majority of work-related time outdoors. 3. Able to maneuver in undeveloped areas on uneven surfaces for up to one mile in various types of weather. 4. Able to walk and stand for long periods of time on different surfaces including walkways, trails, stairs and undeveloped areas. 5. Able to climb different types of ladders and stairs. 6. Must be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses and community members. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Standard work hours will be Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. 2. Subject to on-call duties. 3. Willing to work long hours if necessary to meet the expectations of the job description. 4. During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for entire scheduled workday. 5. During winter months outside temperatures can be below zero for entire scheduled workday. 6. May be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed. 7. The employee in this position is required to reside within a 30-minute radius of the City limits due to the need to respond to emergency calls in a timely manner to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Waukee. 8. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, regular, prompt and reliable attendance at work is required.
