RESOLUTION 2023-305
CITY ISSUED SMART PHONE POLICY FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS
IN THE NAME AND BY THE A UTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WA UKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized
Municipal Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, it is recognized that the Waukee Mayor and City Council should be readily
accessible to the public and have access to forms of communication including phone, text or
email as well as access to online documents and information; AND,
WHEREAS, in order to separate Mayor and City Council business from personal business, it
is desirable for the Mayor and City Council Members to be issued City owned smartphone
devices for city business use only; AND,
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council acknowledge and agree that all voice calls, data,
metadata, emails, texts and any other applicable forms of communication done on a City
owned smartphone are public records and are subject to relevant provisions of Chapter 22 of
the Iowa State Code, as amended from time to time; AND,
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council are expected to protect all City owned equipment
from loss, damage or theft and will be responsible for the good care and maintenance of the
smart phone they are assigned, and will be responsible for all repair and replacement costs,
beyond normal wear and tear, that may occur while in their possession; AND,
WHEREAS, upon leaving office, the Mayor and City Council shall be required to return all
city issued equipment including smartphones for redistribution by the City.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council that the City
shall purchase and distribute smartphones to the Mayor and City Council for official City
business purposes only.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved this the I Oh day of July
2023.
