WORK SESSION MEETING
March 21, 2024
A. Call to Order — The work session meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor
Clarke at 5:32 p.m. at Waukee City Hall, 230 W. Hickman Rd.
B. Roll Call — The following members were present: Mayor Courtney Clarke; Council Members R. Charles
Bottenberg, Chris Crone, Ben Sinclair. Absent: Council Members Rob Grove, Anna Bergman Pierce.
The following Park Board members were present: Blake Crow, Ali Payne, Tab Ray, Theresa Ward.
Also in attendance: City Administrator Brad Deets, Parks & Recreation Director Matt Jermier, Assistant
Parks & Recreation Director Josh VandeKamp, City Clerk Rebecca D. Schuett.
C. Agenda Approval — Council Member Bottenberg moved to approve the agenda; seconded by Council
Member Crone. Results of vote: Ayes: Bottenberg, Crone, Sinclair. Nays: None. Absent: Grove,
Pierce. Motion carried 3 — 0 — 2.
D. Work Session:
1) Aquatic center concept plan presentations, discussion — Lauren Ozburn with Waters Edge
Aquatic Design presented two design concepts. Also in attendance was Kyle McCawley with
Waters Edge Aquatic Design. Ms. Ozburn reviewed the results of public polls and input meetings,
including priority aquatic center features and programs. She then went over details of the two
design concepts, including cost estimates for both. The next steps include refining the concepts to
arrive at a final plan, cost opinion and operating projections. There was much discussion with the
Council and Park Board members on possible staffing needs, general design and layout, potential
programming, maintenance costs and specific features.
E. Comments
Council Member Bottenberg moved to adjourn; seconded by Council Member Sinclair. Ayes: All. Nays:
None. Motion carried 3 — 0.
