Mayor pro-tem Meyer read a letter of resignation from Mayor Howe.He stated in his letter tnat he had recently moved to West Des Moines and could no longer serve as Mayor of Waukee.The coucil discussed a new appotntment.Councilman Meyer then resigned as couiciDmul. Councilmen Applegate,Boone,Gardiner and Rees voted by ballot to fill the vacancy of the office of Mayor.On the first ballot,V.J.Meyer received four votes ~ld was declared the Mayor for the Town of Waukee.V.J.Meyer was sworn in as Mayo~ by Town Clerk,Ray Nizzi. The council man Meyer. councilman. discussed the vac~lcy'of councilman left by the resignation Councilmen voted on two ballots and Lewis Baer was declared Lewis Baer ,was sworn in as Councilman by Cl",rk,;ll'izzi. of council- the new The council adjourned at 7:40 P.M.At 8 P.M.the counnil reconvened with Mayor Me¥er in the cnair and aLl councilmen present.This meeting was called to sell Park Bonds.Jack Sparks &Co.purchased the $36,000 bonds at an interest rate of 5%. Trustees of Boone,Van Meter and Walnut townships met with the council regarding the forming of a mutual fire district.After a long discussion it was decided to form a committee from members of trustees and councilmen to discuss different approaches and report their ideas to Attorney Paul Huscher. Meeting adjourned. July 5,1969 Special meeting of tne Waukee Town Council was held July 5th with Mayor Meyer presiding and all Councilmen present. Al Perrin met with the council regarding the developing by Bill Nap on the 80 acres east of the corporate limits;now owned by Harvey Burger. Mayor Meyer appointed Ruby Mertes and Ruby Waugh to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Moved.by Aliplegat:i;,second by Gardiner,to approve Plat #4.Carried Meeting adjourned. 85
