A pepneaerrtatd.ve of bhe Central Iowa Regional Association of local Govcrnmant,s presented and explained Communi,ty DevelopmentBlock Grant programs,and discussed activities which are eligible for funding under the Block Grant program. Approximately 35 persons attended this meeting. It was unamimouslyagreed upon by person attendJ.ng this meeting that Waulree should apply for assistance in developing an additional water supply. At this meeting,the city administrator explained the water problem that the City of Waulreehas been having with low water pressure. Meetmngadjourned. I I March 4,1975 A special meeting of the Waul<BeCity'council was held on March 4,1975 with Hayor Boone presiding and the f'oLl.ovri.ng councilmen present:Harry Copeland, Ron Larson,and Mervin BommeL,Absent:Jack 6arpe. Al Sears resigned from the council because he is leaving to take a position in another state. This meeting was called regarding the water situation and storm se~rer and the Johnson property. Paul Huscher,attor~ey for the City,Neil Archer,representing Thorpe Well Co, and Henry Oakes,engineer for the City were present.Hap~ahWeil was reporting secretary. Discussion on the Johnson property:The city discussed the purchase of approximatly 2 acres to be used as drainage right-of~vay. Henry Oakes reported to the council that he had talked l~ith the Cit;\{of Des Moines regarding the City of Waukeepurchasing water from them.Approximately 6l:i miles of 12"mai.n--approximate cost $750,000.00.Easements must be procured and this llQuld take a considerable amount of time. Neil Archer talked to the conncil about the possibly well site 3l:i miles north on Walnut Creek.There seems to be an abundance of water there but a complete testing would have to be done to be positive.The present lrater is 4o'deep. The council decided to explore this site and see if water could be available for our second well. TomHughes will drill and install a pumpto be used for testing. The clerk wflsinstructed to investigate cost of 6 and 8 inch transite and PVC pipe and cost of installation. Grading of Ashworth east of town to connect with University paving project by the county was disQussed with the council by engineer Henry Oakes. March 4,1975---cont Council instructed engineer to draw up specs for grading of this road. Hugh Grandfield was appointed unanimously by the City council to fill the vacancy created by Al Sears resignation. Meeting adjour-ned until March 11,1975",when the council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed 1975-76 budget.Meeting time 0 P.M. ~CfJ~ March 11,1975 The Waukee Council held its regular meeting March 11,1975 at 7:30 P.M.with Mayor Boone presiding and counciJJnen Boromell,Copeland,Larson and Grandfieid answering the roll call.Absent--Carpe. The budget estimate ~las discussed by the council.There was no objections on the budget received. Moved by Copeland seconded by Larson to certify the budget to County Auditor. Carried 4 to O.Copy of budget attached. Moved by Boromel seconded by Copeland to instruct attorney,Paul Huscher,to for purchasing a water right-of-way from Dr.Johnson for $1500 per acre. Carried 4 to O. Moved by Larson seconded by Copeland to approve the following expenses for the summer recreation:Fireworks--$500,Swimming--$300,Band--$250.Carried 4 to O. The Waulnee City council discussed additional water for the City of Waukee. Moved by Copeland seconded by Bornmell to approve $500 to be paid to Central Iowa Regional Association of Local Goverrunents as per contract on the 701 study. Carried 4 to O. Moved by Bornmell seconded by Larson to hire Dale Boone to work in the water dept. at a salary of $212.,0 per month.Carried 4 to O. Permission was given to the school to install a sign showing ball parks,providing the highl'1aycommission will approve same. Lights on the east park entrance and corner of University were discussed by the council.
