Regular council meeting was held August 8,1977 with Mayor Boone
presiding and all councilmen present except Gruber.
Moved by Larson seconded by Thompson to approve minutes as read.
Carried 4-0.
Moved by Larson seconded by Grandfield to approve Sunday beer sales
for Casey's General Store.Carried 4 to O.
Moved by Copeland seconded by Thompson that the following resolution
be adopted:
Resolution pretaining to City of Waukee
Methods of Election
"Whereas,the City of Waukee will have an election on November 8,
1977,and
Whereas,City election will elect one mayor and five members to the
council to serve as councilmen,
Whereas,it is deemed advisable that the candidate for mayor receiving
the highest number of votes for that office would be elected.
Whereas,it is deemed advisable that the from the candidates for office
of councilman;the 5 candidates receiving the highest number of votes
would be elected.
Now therefore,be it resolved by the City council of Waukee,Dallas
County,Iowa,that resolution entitled "Methods of Election'"be adopted.
Carried 4 to O.
The council discussed the Old Bank and the beer garden that was
started and not finished.The Clerk was instructed to send a reg-
istered letter to Dick McAtee stating that the beer garden would have
to be torn down and cleaned up.
Moved by Thompson seconded by Larson to have the city attorney draw
an ordinance increasing the salary of the mayor from $50 per month
to $80 per month and councilman salary from $6 per meeting to $10 per
meeting.Carried 4 to O.
Changing the term of office for mayor and councilmen were discussed.
Sgt.Scott gave the monthly police report.
Fall festival to be held September 10,1977.
Mr.Roberts from Country Livin'asked for permission to hold a horse-
shoe pitching marathon for Muscular Dystrophy.Permission was granted.
Storm sewer on back lots of Ashworth was discussed.No action taken.
