Regular council meeting---Ju1y 24,1978
The Waukee City Council met in regular session on July 24,1978 at
city hall with Mayor Bernard Boone presiding and all councilmen
present.
Moved by Copeland,second by Gruber,to approve minutes as read.
Carried 5 to O.
Members of the Jay-Ceettes met with the council regarding a water-
melon feed on the triangle on August 26 from 2:00 til 6:00.
Permission was given.
Bob Applegate,Randy Applegate,Art Spencer,and Rod Spencer met
with the council regarding updating of the fire department.A
representative of Communications Company made a presentation on
pagers for the department at an approximate cost of $9,000.00.Also
discussed at this meeting:a new fire truck,new recruiting for
the fire department,and repairing the tank and pump on the 1960
Dodge.The council discussed the possibility of a county-wide
fire communications system--a11 fire and police department dispatcher
out of a central center.The City Administrator was instructed to
call a meeting of all city officials in the county for a joint
meeting and discuss not only communication problems but all mutual
problems.
Moved by Grandfield,second by Copeland,that the following resolution
be adopted:
RESOLUTION
Resolution approving the plat of a tract of land to be known
as Paul's Place,legally described as follows:
The Southwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of
Section 23,Township 79 North,Range 26 West
of the 5th P.M.,Dallas County,Iowa.
WHEREAS,there has been presented a plat of certain land requesting
approval thereof,and
WHEREAS,it appears that portions of said property to be platted
lie within two (2)miles of the City limits of Waukee,Iowa,and
WHEREAS,it is deemed to be in the best interest of the City of
Waukee that said plat be approved,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Waukee,Iowa:
That the City of Waukee,Iowa,does hereby approve the
platting of the Southwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter
of Section 23,Township 79 North,Range 26 West of the
5th P.M.,Dallas County,Iowa,to be known as Paul's
Place.
Passed and approved this 24th day of July,1978.

regarding Sugar Grove Reights be adopted:
Resolution approving the plat of a tract of land to be known as
Sugar Grove Heights,legally described as follows:
Beginning at the SW corner of Sec.5,T78N,R26W,thence

Moved by Gruber,second by Reddinger,to promote Dave Jordan to
supervisor of the police department at rank of leiutenant at a salary
of $950.00 per month effective August 1,1978.Carried 5 to O.
Councilman Gruber left the meeting for a prior commitment.
Moved by Reddinger,second by Grandfield,to approve a liquor permit
to Michael Blizek and Richard Ross DBA The Old Bank.Carried 4 to O.
Moved by Copeland,second by Grandfield,to approve payment to
Campbell Flying Service for spraying the City of Waukee for
mosquitos for $550.00.Carried 4 to O.
Moved by Reddinger,second by Copeland,to forward to the P &Z
an application from Norma Franks,Norma Owens and the City of Waukee
for voluntary annexation a parcel of ground bordering the City of
Waukee south of the cemetary approximately 33 acres and the land
south of the parcel owned by Norma Franks,approximately 59.24
acres,and a parcel of land owned by Norma Owens,approximately
1 acre or less.Carried 4 to O.

Moved by Grandfield,second by Copeland,to authorize the city
administrator to make arrangement to have well #2 pulled up and the
necessary repairs made.Carried 4 to O.
The new smoking law was discussed by the council.

The regular council meeting was held on August 14,1978 with Mayor
Boone presiding and all councilmen present except Bob Reddinger
Moved by Gruber,second by Thompson,to approve minutes as read.
Carried 4 to O.
Gratias Construction presented a preliminary site plat to the
council regarding a development on University across from the
Des Moines Golf &Country Club.
Moved by Gruber,second by Thompson to not object to this pre-
liminary plat.Voting as follows--Ya--Gruber and Thompson,
Nay~-Copeland and Grandfield.Mayor Boone voted to break the
tie--Ya--motion carried.
Ron Jackson reported to the council on the I I study that is
being held up because of the law suit on 208 sewer between
the City of Des Moines and the 8 suburbs.
Doug Pogge met with the council regarding EMT training.
Moved by Copeland,second by Grandfield,to hire Ken Ropper as
police officer at a salary of $850.00 per month.Carried 4 to O.
Moved by Copeland,second by Gruber to grant Andy's Pizzarena
a liquor license.Carried 4 to O.
Webster Jones resigned from the Library Board because he is
moving to Pennsylvania.
Dave Jordan gave the police report.
Bob Applegate met with the council regarding the fire truck.
Moved by Copeland,second by Thompson,to accept the bid from
Smeal Fire Co for Smeal Fire equipment with a Chevrolet chassis
at a cost of $38,695.00.Township sharing 50%of cost and to
be paid off in 4 years.
