HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-01-14-Regular Minutes1 j January 2,1980 An organizational meeting of the Waukee City Council was held as published in'the Dallas County News on January 2,1980 at 5:30 p.m at city hall.Present was:Bernard Boone,Harry Copeland,Larry Oetting,Jim Higgs,Curtis Scott and Art Spencer.Remo Nizzi,clerk-administrator,administered the oath of office to Mayor Bernard Boone and Councilmen Copeland,Oetting,Higgs,Scott and Spencer.This was the last official duty of clerk-administrator Remo Nizzi as his resignation is effective January 3,1980. At this meeting Harry Copeland was appointed as Mayor pro-tem. The Mayor appointed committees as follows: GAS---Higgs,Spencer,Copeland SEWER--Copeland,Oetting,Higgs WATER---Copeland Scott,Oetting STREETS---Scott,Higgs,Spencer PUBLIC SAFETY---Boone,Scott,Spencer PARKS &RECREATION---Higgs,Scott,Copeland CLAIMS &PERMITS---Oetting,Spencer,Scott PLANNING &ZONING---Oetting Curtis Scott was appointed to attend the DOT meeting in Adel on proposed DOT cjanges concerning Highway 6. Hannah Weil was asked to attend budget meeting in Adel on January 4 for cities and county. Applications for new city clerk-administrator was discussed. Interviews will start being held the week of January 7,1980. The regular meeting will be held on January 14,1980 at 7:30 p.m. Moved by Oetting,second by Scott to adjourn.Carried 5 to O. Meeting adjourned. Mayor Clerk January 14,1980 The regular meeting of the Waukee city council was held on January lLf,1980 at city hall with Mayor Boone presiding and all councilmen present Moved by Scott,second by Copeland,to approve minutes as read.Carried 5 to O. Guests at this meeting were:Gary Bagby and Mr &Mrs Jerome Volkmer. Mayor Boone reported on applicants that had been interviewed by a committee consisting of Mayor Boone,Jim Higgs and Harry Copeland.The committee suggested calling three (3) of the applicants in for interviews with the entire council on Saturday,January 19 at 1:30 p.m. Moved by Copeland,second by Scott to designate the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.as the regular meeting date and time.Carried 5 to O. Moved by Copeland,second by Spencer to name Brenton State Bank as the official depository Carried 5 to O. Moved by Higgs,second by Copeland,to name the Dallas County News and the Des Moines Register and Tribune as official newspapers Carried 5 to O. 2 January 14,1980---cont Moved by Scott,second by Oeeting,to name AID Insurance for security bond.Carried 5 to O. Moved by Higgs,second by Scott,to appoint Paul Huscher as city attorney at $250.00 per month.Carried 5 to O. Moved by Scott,second by Higgs,to rehire police officers as follows: Ron Vest at $12 900.00 per year Ken Hopper at $12,500.00 per year Tom Haley at $12,000.00 per year Larry Phillips at $12,500.00 per year Carried 5 to O. Moved by Copeland,second by Scott,to appoint Larry Phillips as coordinating officer for police department subject to review in 6 months.Carried 5 to O. Moved by Scott,second by Spencer,that the starting salaries of any new officers hired will be $900.00 per month.Carried 5 to O. Moved by Scott,second by Oetting,to rehire office help as follows: Hannah Weil at 6370.00 per year Ann Ford at 6370.00 per year Donna Gorsuch at 6370.00 per year Carried 5 to O. Moved by Scott,second by Copeland,to rehire city maintenace as follows: Delmer Boll at $13,800.00 per year Harry Jones at "$13,800.00 per year Carried 5 to O. Moved by Copeland,second by Scott,to rehire Carroll Robison at $5,000.00 per year,Carried 3 to 2--0etting and Higgs voting no. Curtis Scott gave a report on meeting with DOT in Adel in regard to update of work on Highway 6. Harry Copeland gave a progress report on the storm sewer. Curtis Scott made the suggestion that the council consider having salary increases coincide with the fiscal year.No action taken. Hayor Clerk Meeting adjourned.
