HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-01-12-Regular Minutes38 January 12,1981 The regular meeting of the Waukee council was held on January 12,1981 at 7:30 p.m.with Mayor Copeland presiding and all councilmen present except Curtis Scott who arrived at 7:50 p.m. Moved by Oetting,second by Higgs,to accept the minutes of December 9 and January 5.Carried 4 to O. Jim Ferro representing CIRALG (Central Iowa Regional Association of Local Governments)appeared before the council to give a brief presentation of services offered by this organization. Lyle Smith,postmaster,came service for the Post Office. remain firm on its policy of cheaper gas was available to before the council regarding natural gas The council indicated that it would permitting no more gas hook-ons until the city. Jerry Johnson and Bob Applegate representing the Waukee Fire Dept and Leland Kenny,fire chief'of Bloomfield Township met with the council regarding a fire protection contract for Bloomfield Township. A meeting with the Township trustees and the city council will be forthcoming. Rod Spencer presented a proposal for the purchase of an emergency van for the First Responders.The 1965 Dodge van is being offered up for bids by the City of Madrid.Moved by Higgs,second by Jansma, to authorize the clerk to submit a bid as recommended by the fire department.Carried 5 to O. Fire chief,.Jerry Johnson,indicated that there was a need to update the existing agreements with Boone,Walnut and Van Meter townships. Moved by Scott,second by Jansma,to send notice to all townships served by the Waukee fire department of the termination of present contracts.Carried 5 to O.90 days notice is required before the contract can be negotiated. Jim Michaels,representing Heritage Communications Inc,presented a Cablevision franchise ordinance for the councils consideration. Once the ordinance is passed,an election is held,cable TV may be available to the citizens of Waukee in l~years. Ron Olson went on record as opposing the one-way proposal for Walnut Street between 6th St and Ashworth Dr.He also requested that the alley between his service station and the old tavern be vacated by the City. Merle Rees spoke to the council regarding the present gas rates.He requested that assistance be available for those customers who desire budgeted gas bills for the entire year.He also expressed a concern for retired citizens who may be in need of low-income energy assistance. Gloria Newquist,Dave Reed,John Eatwell,Mr &Mrs Jerome Volkmer, Virginia Oetting,Arletta Swain,Nadine Youngs,Bridget Keller,Mr &Mrs Earl Holtz,Gordon Christianson,and Cecil Reynolds attended the meeting concerning present gas rates. The council stated that the increased revenue resulting from the 10¢per CCF PGA (Purchase Gas Adjustment)clause would be used to cover a 20%increase from Northern Natural Gas and the bonds and interest resulting from the $140,000.00 GO Funding Bond issue. Moved by Oetting,second by Scott,to accept the firing of William Lienberger Jr as of 12-22-80 as per Public Safety Committee recommendation. Carried 5 to O. Moved by Oetting,second by Jansma,to hire Scott Redlinger as police officer at a salary of $1000.00 per month as per Public Safety Committee recommendation.Mr Redlinger will start as of 1-15-81.Carried 5 to O. Moved by Higgs,second by Spencer,to name Mrs Dennis (Marla)Thompson to the Library Board for a 6 year term.Carried 5 to O. Moved by Oetting,second by Higgs,to appoint Michael Aldrich to the Board of Adjustment.Carried 5 toO. The council set January 26,1981 at 7:30 p.m.as the next council meeting. This special meeting will used as the proposed use hearing for the 1981 Federal Revenue Sharing Funds and continued work on revising city ordinances.
