HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-06-20-Regular Minutes153 June 2.0,1983 The June 20,1983 regular City Council meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.by Mayor Joseph A Neubauer.Brian J Redshaw,City Clerk/ Administrator was present and taking minutes. A roll call was taken and the following named councilmen were present: Christianson,Rees,Oetting.Absent:Jansma and Scott. The following guests were also present:Rick Huscher,Mary Heddinger, Jerry Alt,Bob Thornton,Tom Darnold,Frank Hoifeldt,Jim Berner,Barry A.Bishop,Steve Grubb,Ron Hughes,Layne Hughes,Terry Jilek,John W Grubb,Joe Stork,Earl Stone,Bob Barrett,Robert Herrick,Don Henson, Leon Koeppel,Kay Ford,Gary McNichols,Ben Phillips,Bob Heddinger, Richard Applegate,Mel Dessenko,Scott Thomas,Grant Johnson,Mike Thomas,Dean Olson,Mark Casey,Don Bassett,Art Spencer,Bob Applegate, Nicole Keller. Moved by Christianson,second by Rees,to approve the June 7 and 10 minutes as written.Carried 3 to O. Steve &Jerry Grubb presented a proposal for the development of their property,which lies southwest of the intersection of 8th &Cherry streets.Their attorney,Jerry Alt,was also present to represent them. The property is currently zoned R-4,Row Dwelling &Condominium district. Their proposal calls for a lower density development than was previously planned and allows for lot sizes,in some instances,to be less than 65 feet. The City Council directed Rick Huscher to have language for a proposed zoning ordinance amendment to be drafted and presented at the July 5 regular City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. A solid waste hauling residential contract from Waste Management of Iowa .)L Inc.was presented to the City Council.After much discussion,no action was taken on this item. The abandoned and junk motor vehicle ordinance was discussed by the City Council.Input from the City Attorney had been requested and was given by Rick Huscher. Brian J.Redshaw presented the Administrator's report.He pres~uted various proposals for mosquito spraying.Campbell Flying Service had offered to do aerial spraying at a cost of $1200.00 plus a bond in the amount of $1000.00 to be refunded later if no claims were filed. Clarke Company offered to do the aerial spraying for $1256.00 or ground spraying for $664.20. The City Council directed Mr Redshaw to check with the maintenance dept. to determine if the City already has a ground fogger. Mr Redshaw had discussed with Paul Huscher the legal implications of paying the Northern Natural Gas bill before a City Council meeting bill presentation.Huscher indicated that it was allowable since the City was under contact with Northern Natural Gas Co. Moved by Christianson,second by Oetting,to direct the City Clerk/ Administrator to pay the Northern Natural Gas bill on or before the due date (18th of the month)to avoid penalty charges.Carried 3 to O. Moved by Christianson,second by Oetting,to allow the maintenance dept. to rent a de thatcher and packer from Big Bear Equipment Co.at a cost of $300.00 for 1 day to rake the park.Carried 3 to O. The Council directed Merle Rees to contact Rex's Lawn Service in order to make a proposal for a push lawn mower. Moved by Oetting,second by Christianson,to adjourn at 9:40 p.m. Carried 3 to O.
