HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-04-24-Special Minutes214 April 24,1984 A special meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to April 24,1984 at 7:35 p.m.by Mayor Gordon Christianson. present were:Hinkson,Rees,Wilson,Stork,and Barrett. None. order on Councilmen Absent: Guests and staff at this meeting were:Roger Buffington,Harold Jensen,Larry Phillips,Beth Dalbey,Terry Jilek,Tom Demand,Frank Hoife1dt,and Brian Redshaw.Ann Ford was taking minutes. The Council discussed water service in the Waukee Development Park. The Mayor asked for input from the Council on the pursuit of putting in water mains.Sewer for this area was also discussed.Roger Buffington,City Engineer,gave a cost estimate for putting in 12" mains,which did not include looping within the Development Park, at approximately $100,000.00 to $110.000.00 at this time.12" mains are needed for sprinkler systems.It was the feeling of the Council that Waukee needs the industry and to definiteiy pursue getting larger mains to the Development Park. Merle Rees gave the Public Safety Committee report regarding inter- views of 3 prospective police officers.It was recommended,by this Committee,to hire James Ash of Manchester for this position.Joe Stork stated he would like to hire a part time person instead of a full time one. Moved by Rees,second by Barrett,to hire James Ash as a full time police officer,effective May 1,1984,at a salary of $13,500.00. Carried 3 to 2--Hinkson and Stork voting No. The Council received 2 proposals for the dredging of the lagoon. Harold Jensen of Jensen Company explained his dredging operation which should be completed within.30 days from the start of the project at a cost of $39,660.00.Another proposal was received from H W (Pete)Hower with a cost of $20,000.00.The Council directed the City Engineer to look into drawing up specs for bids on the lagoon dredging and send letter to the Council as to the feasibility of doing so before the regular Council meeting on May 8. Brian Redshaw reported that on April 23,Well #2 failed.He had Harold Jensen check on the well today and Mr.Jensen reported his findings to the Council.He gave an approximate cost of $8000.00 for pulling the pump and,if needed,a new motor.The Council agreed that Jensen should pull Well #2 as soon as possible first and then pull Well #1. Tom Demand represented the Baptist Church and presented a proposal for trading land with Inman Realty to build a new church.The Council had no objections to this proposal. Moved by Wilson,second by Rees,to allow the Baptist Church to exchange land with Inman Realty and build a church.Carried 5 to O. Merle Rees had water samples from the Jordan apartments at 660 Walnut which were rusty. Moved by Hinkson,second by Rees,to check pressure at the stop box and,if pressure if OK,owner will be instructed to replace lines from stop box to the apartment building.Carried 5 to O. A discussion was held concerning stre~t damage to Cherry St. done by flooding since the owner filled in the ditch while having construction work done. A letter is to be written to the property owner advising that this matter will be discussed further at the regular Council meeting on May 8. A brief discussion on the median on Walnut Street was held. Moved by Stork,second by Wilson,to adjourn at 9:30 p.m.Carried 5 to O. Meeting
