A brief discussion was held on consideration of adding to the reward

The regula meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order at
7:30 p.m.on September 11,1984 by Mayor Gordon Christianson.
A roll call was held and all Councilmen were present.
Guest and staff at this meeting were:Remo Nizzi,Earl Stone,Don&Judy Henson,Ben Phillips,Bob Applegate,Frank Hoifeldt,Tom Darnold,
Steve Grubb,11arc Stiles,Luke Gruber,Matt Hanson,Randall Hanson,
John Grubb,Terry Jilek,Jim Berner,Dick Applegate,Jim Broderick,
Vivian Wilson,Betty Huscher,Paul Huscher,Brian Redshaw,and Ann Ford.
Moved by Stork,second by Wilson,to approve the minutes of August 14
and August 28 with correction to August 14 minutes to change vote on
traffic light to "Nays:Hinkson and Wilson".Carried 5 to O.
Bob Applegate,Fire Chief,spoke with the Council regarding the meeting
with the township trustees on the extra money from FY 83-84 budget.
The fire department requested this money be rolled over to purchase a
tank for the chassis now owned by the fire department.Mr.Applegate
had received a bid from Smeal Fire Equipment on a stainless steel tank
in the amount of $6300.00.No action was taken at this time on the
purchase of a tank.
Tom Darnold,representing Snyder &Associates,reported that the
construction drawings for Glenview Manor had been approved by Roger
Buffington and recommended the Council accept said drawings with changes
outlined in Mr.Buffington's letter.A disagreement concerning the
construction of sidewalks or a performance bond was discussed.
Moved by Hinkson,second by Wilson,that the matter of sidewalks being
constructed or a bond posted be settled outside of the Council chambers.
Motion carried 3 to 2--Rees and Stork voting No.
Construction drawing of Glenview Hanor will be reviewed at a later date.

Howard Wilson submitted his resigna.tion,effective at the end of this
meeting due to a job change.The Mayor and Council accepted Councilman
Wilson's resignation and gave him their thanks for a job well done.

News regarding the filling of the Council vacancy.Carried 5 to O.
Reward money for the missing newspaper carriers was discussed.Bob
Barrett explained further about the reward monies 0

fund.Motion failed 2 to 3--Hinkson,Wilson,and Rees voting No.
Joe Stork is to check into the painting of the overhead garage doors at

A brief discussion was held on the repair of the manhole at 950-3rd St.
This work will be done as soon as the City crew has time available.
Brian Redshaw reported that the materials have already been obtained
for this work.

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 301,WAUKEE MUNICIPAL CODE,ZONING
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA,TO FURTHER DEFINE THE FRONT
YARD OF A CORNER LOT BY INSERTING FOLLOWING THE FIRST SENTENCE IN
DEFINITION,"YARD,FRONT",THE FOLLOWING:"THE NARROW FRONTAGE ON
A CORNER LOT IS CONSIDERED THE FRONT LOT LINE REGARDLESS OF WHERE
THE BUILDING ENTRANCE IS LOCATED."
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Waukee:
Section 1.Section 301.3 of Chapter 301 Waukee Municipal
Code,Zoning Ordinance of the City,is hereby amended by inserting
following the first sentence in Definition "Yard,Front","The
Narrow Frontage on a Corner Lot is consider the front lot line
regardless of where the building entrance is located,"so that said
definition will read as follows:
301.3 YARD,FRONT.A yard extending across the
full width of the lot and measured between
the front lot line and the front of the
.building other than the projection of the
usual steps or unenclosed porches.The
Narrow Frontage on a Corner Lot is consid-
ered front front lot line regardless of
where the building entrance is located.
See "Yard"for eave or overhang limitations.
Section 2.Effective Date.This Ordinance shall be in effect
after its final passage,approval,and publication as required by law.

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Waukee:
Section 1.Section 202.4 of Chapter 202,Waukee Municipal
Code,establishing due date for payment for gas be amended by
deleting therefrom all of said.section and inserting in lieu there-
of the following:
202.4 Payment.Gas payments .shall be governed by
the Waukee Municipal Utilities Gas Tariff,
as the same may,from time to time,be amended,
on file with the Iowa State Commerce Commission.

Action was deferred on the Park Board.
A discussion was held on whether the City should reimburse Jerry
Wright for his part of the rock payment on ground behind the City
Hall.No action was taken.
Walt Hinkson gave the Utilities report.He reported that the sludge
storage pit was ready for pumping and that Well #1 pump motor will
need to be replaced within a year;also,a better filter is needed.
Another site for a well in the future was briefly discussed.Various
ways of cutting heating costs of City buildings was discussed.
The Council discussed truck routes for the Glenview Manor development.
Signs are to be posted on 8th and 7th Streets for no heavy trucks.
Cherry Street is to be used for the trucks into the development.
Merle Rees gave the Public Safety report.
Gordon Christianson gave the Mayor's report.
Brian Redshaw gave the Administrator's report.He reported that the
fenceviewers will meet on September 12 at 7:30 p.m.and that Ray Rinard
of the Planning &Zoning Commission has resigned effective immediately.

7:00 p.m.on September 24,1984 by Mayor Gordon Christianson.
A roll call was held and the following Councilmen were present:
Walt Hinkson,Bob Barrett,and Merle Rees.Absent:Joe Stork.
Guests and staff present were:Luke Gruber,Brian Redshaw,and Ann Ford.
A petition was received from Luke Gruber concerning a special election
to fill the vacancy on the Council.
Moved by Rees,second by Barrett,to receive and file the petition.
