HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-05-27-Special Minutes68 May 27,1986 A special meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order at 6:00 p.m.by Mayor Gordon Christianson.Brian J Redshaw was present and taking minutes. Guests and staff also present were:Roger Buffington, Krohn,Norman Hammen,Doug Hammen,Larry Phillips,Jim Bob McKinney,Randy Krohn,Jim Thompson,Marc Stiles, Casey,and Dick Applegate. Henry McKinney, Mark A roll call was held and all Councilmen were present. The Mayor asked for any questions or objections to the proposed FY 85-86 budget amendment.None were heard. Moved by Gruber,second by Tovrea,to approve Resolution No.45 as follows: RESOLUTION NO.45 A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CURRENT BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30,1986 (AS AMENDED LAST ON NOVEMBER 26,1985). BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Waukee,Iowa: Section 1.Following notice published May 22,1986 and the public hearing held May 27,1986,the current budget (as previously amended)is amended as set out herein and in the detail by fund and activity that supports this resolution which was considered at that hearing: Home &Corum Policy & PROGRAM TOTALS Comm Prot..Human DeY.·EnYironmen·t .Admin. Moved by Hoifeldt,second by Tovrea,to approve the drawings as presented.Carried 5 to O. The Public Safety Committee recorrnnended the following increases effective June 1,1986: Starting salary increase from 14,500 to 15,500 James Ash increase from 15,400 to 16,200 Kenneth Hopper increase from 18,000 to 18,800' Tom Tovrea talked about limiting the police department to 3 men. Moved by Hoifeldt,second by Gruber,to approve as recommended by the Public Safety Committee. Stork and Tovrea voting No. The Public Safety Committee recorrnnended the hiring of Greg Breuer. the salary increases Carried 3 to 2--- Moved by Hoifeldt,second by Brown,to hire Gregory Breuer as police officer at a salary of $15,500 effective June 2,1986. Carried 3 to 2--Stork and Tovrea voting No. ,110ved by Stork,second by Tovrea,to continue membership in the ~South Dallas County Landfill Agency.Carried 4 to I--Gruber voting No. Bob &Jim McKinney of McKinney &McKinney Law Offices presented a rezoning request on behalf of Norman Hammen.The parcel in question is 50S-4th St and Mr Hammen requested that it be changed from R-2 to C-2 in order to allow him to operate a fast food and ice cream business. Moved by Gruber,second by Tovrea,to receive 'and file the petition and refer the matter to P &Z.Carried 5 toO. Meeting adjourned. June 10,1986 The regular meeting of the \vaukee City Council was called to order at 7:31 p.m.by Mayor Gordon Christianson. A roll call was held and the following named Councilmen were present: Tovrea,Hoifeldt,Stork.Absent:Brown and Gruber. Guests and staff at this meeting were:Dennis Alt,Jim Stricker,Rick Huscher,Embree Edgington,David Schmidt,Jack Moorhead,James McKinney, Mark Casey,Randy Krohn,Bret Pilney,Roger Buffington,Horman Hammen, Doug Hammen,Bart Weller,Brian Sluaghter,Arnie Borchers,Henry Krohn, Marc Stiles,Tim Wagner,Floyd Rosenkranz,Don Henson,Clint and Cyndi Humbert,Dick Applegate,Katherine Ramsey,and Brian Redshaw. Moved by Hoifeldt,second by Tovrea,to approve minutes of May 13 and 27.Carried 3 to O. Dennis Alt and Jim Stricker of Iowa Department of Air,Water and Waste Management spoke to the Council regarding the state's position relative to the water and sewer plans of action. Embree Edgington spoke regarding the construction of a handicapped ramp at St.Boniface Church which would extend l'inside the Haple Street right-of-way. Moved by Tovrea,second by Stork,to approve the use of the right-of- way by St.Boniface to construct a handicapped ramp.Carried 3 to O.
